Nat King Cole
Introduction

Nat Cole first performed on television in 1948 and would remain a constant presence on the small screen for the remainder of his career. This section documents Cole's performances as a guest star, in addition to a handful of musical specials in which he starred or hosted. Among the entries included here are appearances on shows hosted by the likes of Ed Sullivan, Perry Como, Jack Paar, and many others, and specials written especially for Cole, such as A King Called Cole (1960), and Wild Is Love (1961), the latter of which was filmed at CBC Studios and on location in Toronto.

Note: this listing only includes known extant television performances, and the songs performed are documented. It does not attempt to chronicle all of Cole's appearances on television. (Photo: Cole was the featured guest on the January 21, 1964 episode of The Jack Benny Show.)

Arrangements

"On The Street Where You Live" is generally the same as the studio recording, taken at a slightly slower tempo with the instrumental section cut out. The Schomburg has this club arrangement, though the finding aid does not credit the arranger.

"I Don't Want To See Tomorrow" is also essentially the studio arrangement, but without the prominent piano heard on the Capitol version.
