Patsy Cline
Introduction

After the 4 Star contract ended in 1960, Patsy considered signing with Challenge Records, another independent label. (Had she gone with Challenge, her entire catalogue would be owned by Sony Music Publishing today.) Meanwhile, at a cocktail party, Chet Atkins discreetly asked when she was coming to RCA Victor. Ultimately, Patsy signed a new recording contract with Decca. Aware of the frustration she endured as a 4 Star artist, producer Owen Bradley was surprised by Patsy's decision to stay. Although they occasionally disagreed on A&R matters, Patsy felt that her collaboration with Bradley should continue. The Decca contract granted Patsy the artistic freedom to record quality material written by the leading songwriters of Nashville, and a string of hits soon followed.

The Decca period includes a total of 17 recording sessions that produced 51 masters, seven singles, four extended-plays (EP) and two albums. Singles are indexed with A Side / B Side titles. Album programming is found on the Issues menu. Click on the disclosure arrows to reveal a longer list of issues for some performances.

Although Patsy was present for this session, it only produced backing tracks. The vocal was recorded ca. September 15, 1961.

2. Organ Credit
In a 1988 interview with Mix magazine, Owen Bradley revealed that he played organ on "Crazy". Don Roy credits Floyd Cramer for both piano and organ, most likely in error.

3. "Funny How Time Slips Away"
Patsy wanted to cut another Willie Nelson song at this session, but no recording was attempted. Billy Walker's version was riding the charts from a June release on Columbia at the time.
