1. Talent Scouting
Ben Adelman recorded Jimmy Dean's "Bumming Around" at this studio in 1952, and sent the recording to Bill McCall of 4 Star Records. McCall waxed the song, and it reached #5 Billboard Country. McCall negotiated a talent scouting arrangement with Adelman that eventually scored a recording contract for Patsy Cline.
2. Various Demo Sessions
At least a dozen Patsy Cline performances were recorded at Adelman's studio, and the tapes were sent to 4 Star. The label offered to sign Patsy, and she accepted. The demo tapes disappeared from 4 Star's offices shortly thereafter; the performances listed here are taken from biography, and further details are unknown. Accompaniment was probably Bill Peer with his Melody Boys, or Jimmy Dean's Texas Wildcats, with Roy Clark and Wade Holmes.

1. Demo Disc
These performances survived on a 78 rpm acetate that bears typewritten labels stamped with WARL call letters. Only one copy is known to exist; several might have been cut for promotional purposes, or the disc may be unique. This acetate was inherited by Marc Zitelman, and possibly cut for his father as a personal gift from one of the performers.
2. Recording vs. Cutting Date
The recordings might stem from as early as late 1953, when Patsy started making tapes at Ben Adelman's studio in D.C. Those tapes were sent to Bill McCall of 4 Star Records, and Patsy had a recording contract by September 1954. This acetate was surely cut that same month, shortly after Patsy began appearing on Jimmy Dean's Town and Country Time radio show at WARL. Tape anomalies are present, which rule out a direct-to-disk recording and suggest that the songs were possibly taped at the previous venue some time earlier. Since the WARL acetate is the only available source for these performances, however, the cutting date of the disc is reported for the session.

The Phelps Brothers owned Fernwood Farms in Norfolk County, Virginia. The property included a barn made into a horse stable, a community dance hall, and an old hotel converted into a recording studio. Patsy sang at the dance hall, and later that evening went to the property's studio with Marvin Carroll to make these recordings.
