Introduction

Patsy Cline recorded transcription discs for the armed forces. The format of each program varied depending upon the sponsor (U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps). Patsy first appeared as a guest and later as host of these shows. The transcription discs were duplicated and sent to thousands of stations for broadcast across the United States and its overseas territories.

There is often chatter between songs, and the shows would include advertisements and recruitment bulletins. The performances feature simple, relaxed arrangements. Canned applause was used for some of the shows, and session musicians would applaud on others. Patsy could sing anything on these programs, since they were not for commercial sale and therefore not subject to contract restrictions.
